The Challenge

A horse ranch in Petaluma, CA faced a common problem for rural properties — zero cell coverage. Ranch staff and visitors had no way to make or receive phone calls on site. On top of that, the property lacked any security camera system to monitor the grounds and had no modern access control for their main gate, relying on manual entry.

The owners needed a complete technology solution that would solve all three problems — connectivity, security, and access control — in one cohesive system.

Our Solution

We deployed a full Ubiquiti UniFi ecosystem across the property, turning a disconnected ranch into a fully connected, secure, and smart-access facility.

UniFi Network — WiFi for WiFi Calling

With no cell coverage on the property, we installed UniFi wireless access points to blanket the ranch in reliable WiFi. This enabled WiFi calling on smartphones, giving staff and visitors the ability to make and receive calls anywhere on the property — something they simply couldn't do before. No more walking to the road to get a signal.

UniFi Protect — Security Cameras

We installed a UniFi Protect camera system to provide comprehensive surveillance coverage across the ranch. With high-definition cameras placed at key locations, the owners can now monitor the property 24/7 from their phones — whether they're on site or away. UniFi Protect's smart detection features provide instant alerts for people, vehicles, and animals, giving the ranch owners peace of mind.

UniFi Access — Smart Gate Entry

To modernize the ranch's gate, we deployed UniFi Access with a video intercom and license plate recognition. Visitors can buzz in through the intercom with live video, and recognized vehicles — like the ranch owners, staff, and trusted visitors — get automatic gate access via license plate detection. No more fumbling with keys or codes. It's secure, convenient, and fully integrated with the rest of the UniFi system.
