Is Starlink Right for Your Home? Plans, Speeds, and Installation Explained
Slow internet shouldn’t dictate where you can live or work. Starlink provides satellite internet without relying on the copper or cable connection running down your street, making it worth considering for North Bay properties with limited broadband options.

Moving beyond older AT&T copper and DSL service
If you’re still using slow DSL—or planning for the retirement of an older copper connection—this is a good time to review your options.
AT&T is transitioning away from traditional copper-based phone and DSL services in stages, with a goal of exiting its copper network across most of its wireline footprint by the end of 2029. Timing varies by location; that does not mean every North Bay customer faces an immediate shutdown. Follow the notices for your particular account.
Where fiber or another strong wired alternative isn’t available, Starlink can offer a practical way forward.
One important distinction: Starlink replaces your internet connection, not a traditional telephone line directly. Before cancelling copper service, review any phone number, alarm, medical-alert device, or other equipment that depends on it.
Which Starlink residential plan should you choose?
Starlink currently lists three residential options. The 100 Mbps and 200 Mbps plans are available only in selected areas; enter your service address to see your choices. These are download-speed tiers, not guaranteed constant speeds.
Residential 100 Mbps: everyday household use
A practical starting point for a smaller household browsing, streaming, checking email, and making video calls, without many heavy downloads happening simultaneously.
Residential 200 Mbps: more activity at the same time
A useful option for a busier household with several people streaming, working, studying, and downloading at the same time.
Residential Max: demanding households
For households wanting the maximum available residential speeds and top residential network priority, particularly when several heavy-use activities overlap. Max is not a guaranteed fixed download speed.
These examples are planning guidance, not fixed device limits. Video calls and cloud backups also depend on upload performance; gaming depends on latency and connection stability, not download speed alone.
Will the least expensive plan improve slow internet?
If your current connection delivers only 10–30 Mbps, Starlink’s entry-level 100 Mbps option can provide substantially more download capacity.
For anyone consistently getting less than 100 Mbps, it’s worth comparing—but an improvement isn’t automatic. Existing service quality, network congestion, obstructions, and Wi-Fi coverage all influence the result. A dependable 90 Mbps wired connection and a struggling 10 Mbps DSL connection are very different starting points.
Installation: straightforward setup or a custom solution?
For a simple, straightforward property, Starlink offers basic professional installation options on eligible orders. Check what is available and included before purchasing; standard installation does not cover every property or mounting requirement.
If Starlink’s installer cannot complete your installation—or your property needs a more involved approach—Clear Telecommunications can help.
Our Starlink installation starts at $1,100 + parts + tax. Final pricing depends on the mounting location, access, cable routing, and project requirements. Starlink equipment and monthly service are separate.

Check current promotions before ordering
Starlink regularly changes pricing, equipment offers, and installation promotions. Check the options for your address rather than relying on an older advertised price.
Check current Starlink plans and eligible $100 referral rewards.
Eligible U.S. customers may receive a $100 referral reward under Starlink’s current terms—not necessarily an immediate checkout discount. Eligibility, timing, and offer combinations are determined by Starlink. Clear may also receive a referral reward.
