Bringing a Kenwood Estate Together with Wi-Fi and UniFi Protect

A beautiful country property should feel connected to the way you live. The network behind its Wi-Fi and security cameras helps make that possible.

For this large rural estate in Kenwood, Clear Telecommunications brought five areas of the property together using a combination of wired Ethernet connections and UniFi wireless bridges. That shared network supports UniFi Protect security cameras throughout the estate and Wi-Fi where the homeowners need it.

Connecting the property, thoughtfully

On a large property, the places where you want connectivity may be spread well beyond the main home. A camera needs a connection back to the network, and a Wi-Fi access point needs one before it can serve the phones, laptops, and other devices nearby.

Adding equipment at a distant building is only part of the work; providing a suitable path back to the rest of the network matters just as much.

At the Kenwood estate, we used two complementary approaches: wired connections and wireless bridging. Together, they link the five areas of the property and provide the foundation for its camera and Wi-Fi systems.

A practical mix of wired and wireless connections

Ethernet provides a direct physical connection between network equipment. Where a wired connection is part of the design, it gives cameras and access points a path back to the wider network through a cable.

A wireless bridge serves a different purpose from the Wi-Fi you use on your phone. It connects one part of a property to another using dedicated equipment, carrying network traffic between those areas. Equipment on the far side of that link can then connect to the shared network.

We used UniFi wireless bridges alongside Ethernet at this estate. Combining the two approaches let us connect the property without treating every area as though it needed the same type of connection.

The right choice depends on the setting. Cable routes, distance, power, and clear sightlines between bridge locations all matter when planning a system. Understanding those details helps determine where a wired connection makes sense and where a wireless bridge is suitable.

A closer look with UniFi Protect

With the network in place, we installed a mix of camera types using UniFi Protect, including the AI PTZ Industrial. This pan-tilt-zoom camera combines 4K video with 22x optical zoom, offering a flexible way to look across spacious grounds and bring an area of interest into closer view.

Pan and tilt let the view move horizontally and vertically, while optical zoom brings distant details closer. On a large residential property, different spaces call for different views. Combining PTZ capability with other camera types helps shape the system around those needs.

The result brings cameras throughout the estate together with Wi-Fi where the homeowners need it. We approach these projects as a complete system, considering how the connections, access points, and cameras work together to fit the property and the people who live there.
