Location: Sonoma County, California Client: Private homeowner Property Type: Residential home with structured network panel

Overview

Clear Telecommunications was brought in to install a new Starlink system for a residential client in Sonoma County, integrating it into the home’s existing network infrastructure. While the property already featured a structured cabling panel, the job required creative planning — including a custom cable route and non-invasive mounting — to work around tight attic constraints.

The client provided the Starlink dish and select hardware. Our goal was to deliver a clean, secure, and technically sound installation tailored to the home’s layout.

Challenges

Although this wasn’t a rural or remote site, the project came with unique constraints:

  • No attic access: The team couldn’t route the cable through the roof as originally planned.

  • Vent screen routing: The cable was routed through a screened vent — a practical workaround given the home’s structure.

  • Extended path: Running the cable under the house and into the laundry room resulted in a longer-than-expected route.

  • Collaborative adjustments: Final placement was reviewed with the homeowner to ensure optimal positioning.

Our Installation Approach

1. Pre-Planning & Equipment Load-in

Our team came prepared with outdoor-rated Ubiquiti cable, Starlink mounting hardware, structured cabling accessories, and a 1-to-3 power splitter — ensuring flexibility to adapt on-site.

2. Cable Routing & Starlink Mounting

With no attic access, the cable was routed from the roof, down the exterior siding, through a screened vent, and beneath the house. From there, it was brought up into the structured wiring panel. We used a ridge-line roof mount — non-invasive and repositionable — to test signal strength and finalize dish placement.

3. Structured Network Integration

Two new rack shelves were installed to better organize network gear. A thick blue Cat6 patch cord was added for clean, efficient patching. The Starlink router was connected directly into the home’s existing low-voltage panel in the laundry room.

Results

This Starlink installation successfully delivered high-speed connectivity throughout the home — without altering the structure. The system is now integrated, reliable, and ready to support the client’s day-to-day needs, with flexibility for future expansion if required.
